What is a Database?

According to the Webster Dictionary, a DATABASE is defined as: large collection of data organized especially for rapid search and retrieval (as by a computer).  The information in a database can be in a variety of formats such as electronic, audio, graphic, or printed.  An example of a simple database is a phone book.

Our library has access to free databases provided by the Mass Library System and GALE Group. Gale/Cengage's Databases contain a large group of resources that includes information from reference books as well as from journals, newspapers, and magazines to auto repair, small business resources, and research and much more.
